Going Private

It was recently brought to my attention how much a person can learn about me and my family from reading this blog. A scary amount of information, even though I thought I was being careful. So, I have decided to go private. If I don't have your e-mail, and you would like an invitation, leave your e-mail in the comments. I will delete it as soon as I get it down, so your e-mail isn't viewable to the entire world.
Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause, but my family's safety has to come first.

Don't do it. Paranoia is not the same thing as safekeeping of your family. What people can find out about your family from the blog is insignificant compared with what they can get through other means. It's not really an anonymous world, but that doesn't mean it's a particularly unsafe one. Millions of people have blogs that are public and they are not particularly in danger.

Danielle privated her blog and it totally ruined it. I never check it any more.

I know there are other means to find out personal information, but I don't want to make it easier. That information usually doesn't come with pictures either.
It's really no extra work, at least for bloggers. I always log in to my blog, then check others from there. You can't leave comments or anything without being logged in (without having to enter your password with each comment-way too much work). As long as your logged in, there's no passwords. Come on, quit fighting it.

Kathleen makes an excellent point, Grant. Once you're logged in, you can go straight to private blogs anyway. The only annoying part is that Google Reader doesn't pick up private blogs. So yes, you actually have to check those. But you do it because you love us. :)

Hey kathleen, I just wanted to make sure you got my post that I put on here. Call me if you didn't get the email.

I got it Bethany. I have been deleting them, for those that want their e-mail kept private. I am waiting a few days before I switch it over, to make sure everyone gets a chance to see this. So you should be getting an invitation in a few days.

I agree with Grant but if you feel safer this way then that is all that matters. I don't feel unsafe at all having a public blog and I put more info on mine than most people. But Like I said whatever makes you feel safe :P

BTW Grant's complaint is that you can't put private blogs into Google Reader so you don't get a reminder telling you about new blog posts. I almost never read Danielle's blog anymore because I don't remember too. If you check blogs individually then it's no problem. But for us google reader users, it creates a bit of a problem.
